Monday, April 14, 2003

On Monday, April 14, 2003, in the RiverCenter's Studio Theater in downtown Columbus, the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians presented the first event in the Center's "McCullers Center Reading Series." Mr. Shawn Sturgeon, a poet and Emory University creative writing professor, read his work and answered questions from the audience. Copies of Mr. Sturgeon's latest book of poetry, "Either / Ur" (River City Publishing, 2002) were on sale at the event and the author was available for signing books at the end of the program.


Sunday, September 7, 2003

Dr. Virginia Spencer Carr read from her acclaimed biography of Carson McCullers, The Lonely Hunter. The event celebrated the recent re-issue of Dr. Carr's biography of McCullers. Events began with a signing at Barnes & Noble Bookstore from 3:00 until 4:30 PM, and they resumed at 8:00 in the evening with a reading at the Rivercenter for the Performing Arts in downtown Columbus. Both events were free and open to the public.

October 8, 2003

The Center hosted at the Smith-McCullers House a workshop for Columbus State University creative writing students.  Visiting artist was Marcus McPeek Villatoro.


February 18, 2004

Award-winning poet Chris Forhan read from his work, The Actual Moon, The Actual Stars, at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center. The event was a collaboration between the Carson McCullers Center and the Coca-Cola Space Science Center.
