The Smith-McCullers House Museum

The Smith-McCullers House Museum is located in the childhood home of Carson McCullers.  The Smith family lived in the house from 1925, when Carson was 8 years old, until 1944.  Located on a quiet residential street in the Wildwood Circle/Hillcrest historic district in Columbus, the Smith-McCullers House Museum is open to the public by appointment.  To schedule individual or group tours, please contact the McCullers Center at (706) 327-1911 or e-mail mccullerscenter@colstate.edu

Directions:  From Atlanta, via I-185, take Exit 6.  At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right (west).  You'll be on Macon/Wynnton Road.  Go through seven traffic lights.  You'll see a green-and-white "Stark Avenue" sign hanging over the street, near the Chik-Fil-A.  Turn right onto Stark.  Stark takes a little jog at the end of the first block.  The Smith-McCullers House is a block-and-a-half behind the Chik-Fil-A, on your left.    You'll see the historic marker out front near the street.

From downtown Columbus, drive east on 13th Street for approximately 2.5 miles.  Turn left onto Stark Avenue.  Go a block-and-a-half to 1519 Stark Avenue.
